Athira Pillai, M.Sc.
I joined Dr. Joshua D. Wythe’s lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine as a Lab Specialist II in August 2024. In this role, I’m diving into research in cell biology and neuroscience, building on my previous experiences in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields.
Previously, I worked at Portal Biotechnologies, where I led projects to improve global access to cell therapies and developed advanced biomolecule delivery systems. My time at Biogen involved research on neurodegenerative diseases using human iPSC-derived neuronal cells, and I gained valuable experience in gene expression studies.
I also contributed to cancer cell line research at Wayne State University and completed internships at the National Facility for Biopharmaceuticals and Athena Drug Delivery Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
